Siegwerk UK partners with local forestry center

United Kingdom

Siegwerk UK has partnered with the Rosliston Forestry Centre near Swadlincote to support local environmental education projects.

Rosliston Forestry Centre, which is jointly funded by the South Derbyshire District Council (SDDC) and Forestry England, offers school visits for all age groups providing a range of activities including hunting insects, trail walking, orienteering, collecting water samples from a pond to examine what insects are present, wellbeing activities, environmental games and literacy and numeracy project work.

Siegwerk UK have committed to supporting the center to run education projects for local schools through a combination of sponsorship and volunteering. The first of these projects saw Siegwerk purchase equipment to enable a new geography fieldwork session aimed at providing a meaningful field work opportunity for aspiring high school level geography students which combines a mix of field observation and sampling.

The successful launch session took place on April 23, with students from Doncaster University Technical College (UTC), who were joined by representatives from Siegwerk and SDDC to mark the handover of the new equipment ahead of their fieldwork.

Sean McBurney, South Derbyshire District Council’s Head of Community, and Culture said, “We’re excited to see the launch of this brand-new initiative. There has been a long recognition of the need for good-quality fieldwork where students can gain practical skills in a complementary environment. A huge thanks to Siegwerk for their support alongside the expertise of our dedicated team at the Environmental Education Project. This dedication and partnership working allows us to develop sessions like this that attract students from across the UK to visit and learn at Rosliston Forestry Centre.”
