SOS and Siegwerk Youth Summit 2024: championing youth empowerment and giving hope a chance

SOS Children's Villages Pilipinas (SOS Philippines) is a non-government organization that provides quality alternative care in a family environment to Filipino children and youth who have lost parental care.

YouthCan! is a global program for employability and entrepreneurship that supports young people to successfully transition from school to meaningful work and independent life. The program’s vision is to unlock their potential to build careers, or become entrepreneurs, creating a brighter future for themselves and their communities.

SOS Children’s Villages and Siegwerk held a three-day Youth Summit September 20-22, with 30 participants in three program locations, Bataan, Lipa and Manila at the Hermann Gmeiner National Training Center in Lipa, Batangas. The summit focused on essential aspects of the youth growth and development as it covered comprehensive approach to mental health with practical tools to manage stress and anxiety, nurturing leadership skills, and insights on career exploration, resume writing and interview simulations.

The first day of Youth Summit focused on mental health awareness and leadership development. SOS invited expert resource speakers who covered the topics of “Mindful Minds: Cultivating Mental Health and Well-being for SOS Children’s Villages” and “Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders.”                                  

On the second day, the group traveled to Shercon Resort and Ecology Park in Mataas na Kahoy, Batangas, for a full day of team-building activities. The day was filled with exciting challenges that fostered teamwork, leadership, and self-confidence which includes adventurous Zipline ride and wall rappelling.

The last day of the Youth Summit was facilitated by Siegwerk representatives and offered topics for Career Planning and Development, Career Exploration, Resume Writing and Job Interview Tips followed by workshop and job interview simulations. The sessions emphasized the importance of setting career goals and we provided valuable insights on how to achieve them.

At the end of the summit, certificates of appreciation were awarded to all the Siegwerk participants and YouthCan! members. The summit concluded on a high note, leaving the youth empowered, inspired, and equipped with tools for success. The three days summit were filled with fun, learning, and personal growth that the youth and facilitators will cherish. Siegwerk Philippines Inc. was grateful for the opportunity to connect with and support these remarkable young individuals, continuing its long-standing commitment to SOS Children’s Villages.
