Siegwerk Mexico is changing young adults lives with YouthCan! mentoring program

In 2020, Siegwerk Mexico marked its 10th anniversary working with the SOS Children’s Village in Morelia, Michoacán, just over three hours away. The partnership is one of several Lighthouse projects which Siegwerk has initiated in several countries around the globe. This is another example of how Siegwerk supports local communities though targeted Corporate Social Responsibility programs.
On August 24, children from the Morelia, Michoacán SOS Village came to Siegwerk to spend a day and meet with their mentors as part of the broader YouthCan! mentoring project which ran from March through July of this year. At Siegwerk, the site leadership, including the North LATAM Cluster Head, Alberto Cendejas, served as the mentors.
“Siegwerk has personally surprised me as it’s the first company in Mexico - which we are working with - that started the mentor/mentee program from the top with senior management. It is usual for other companies to launch the YouthCan! initiative at the operational level,” said Elizabeth Alanis, Corporate Alliance Coordinator, SOS Children’s Villages.
As part of the day’s activities, each mentee had a quick tour of the Toluca, Mexico office as well as an introduction to the many team members. Cendejas gave a presentation to the kids titled: “Raising the life line.” This focused on his reflections on life with the principles (to do, to be and to have) while sharing his advice on being happy and successful in the future. This was both a reflexive and sentimental moment for both mentors and mentees. At the end of this presentation the kids each shared a written letter to their mentor.
Alanis closed by pointing out: “This program model has been a success, and we are proud to share that one of our kids has already been offered a job due to all the effort and advice given through the mentoring program.”
